Publications and Research

The PIDC Secretariat provides policy support to Members on international, regional and national issues, and conducts research and analysis as directed by the Board and wider Membership.

Policy

The PIDC Secretariat provides policy support to Members in accordance with the organisation’s strategic plan on a regional basis and with Members bilaterally as required.

Some of the key areas of policy support are listed below. The PIDC publishes policy briefs on issues of relevance to members to build awareness, highlight issues and provide initial guidance. Links to these briefs are provided where available and can be found in the Policy Briefs Section.

Research

The PIDC’s research capacity is focussed on the collection, collation and analysis of data provided by Members annually in a range of areas, including:

  • arrivals
  • border
  • refusals
  • unlawfully residing populations
  • returns and deportations
  • people smuggling
  • human trafficking
  • immigration and related fraud
  • asylum and refugee status determination

This  data is used to produce the PIDC Report on Pacific People Smuggling, Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration and contributes to the Transnational Organised Crime report to the Pacific Islands Forum Regional Security Committee.
