Our History

1996
First Immigration Directors meeting organized and funded by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. It brought together Immigration Directors of forum member countries only.
1997
Second Annual conference and members considered and adopted the charter that established the objectives, roles and responsibilities of the Conference. Also adopted a change of name from the initial South Pacific Immigration Director’s conference to Pacific Immigration Directors Conference. This change of name was made to broaden its membership from other independent territories and states in the Pacific.

2002
Members decided that PIDC should have a permanent secretariat. With the assistance of the Forum Secretariat the PIDC secretariat was established in Suva and was housed in the Pacific Islands Forum Compound.
2004
Members at the annual conference in the Federated States of Micronesia agreed to pursue legal entity status and worked towards achieving this through a mechanism of a headquarters arrangement with a host country.
2009
PIDC undertook an in depth institutional review which recommended the concept of reconfirming PIDC’s legal entity status as a priority for members.
2014
Members signing the PIDC MOU to become members of PIDC under its new Constitution.
2015
Members endorsed the relocation and establishment of PIDC’s new headquarters in Samoa under the host country agreement.
June 2016
PIDC signed its Headquarters Agreement. The establishment of the new PIDC office in Apia is viewed as a crucial milestone for the organization and is testament to the increasing collaboration among members.
2018
PIDC change its name from Pacific Immigration Directors Conference to Pacific Immigration Development Community
2019
Information Sharing Agreement signed by members. Subsequently created the Information Sharing Working Group (ISWG) to advance and manage sharing of information amongst members.
